The Altitude Accelerator is pleased to welcome their fifth cohort for their Incubator program. The new cohort comprises four companies that will be with the program for a six-month term:
- AOMS Technologies, which develops specialty fiber optic sensing products for application areas where existing electronic sensors fail or lose performance;
- Discovr Labs, which is bringing virtual reality to education. Discovr empowers students and educators by removing the barriers to experiential learning by creating highly engaging VR content based on proven education models and building software to facilitate and deploy VR learning content through their platform;
- Hearshot, which is introducing a weather-proofed wearable headset that allows for full duplex communication and leverages some of the latest developments in near-proximity communication and component technologies; and
- Ubiquilux, which is the smart lighting company that is designing and marketing the world’s first and only gesture-controlled, active energy-saving dimmer switch.
These companies were finally selected from 25 initial applicants after they pitched to an external panel of judges. The companies were chosen because of their growth potential, product relevance, as well as clear direction and goals.
Pam Banks, executive director of the Altitude Accelerator, said, “I’m excited to have the new cohort on board. The companies come from different industries but they all have an equally excellent market potential. They can all benefit from the program in achieving their goals, and I’m hoping to see them achieve their ambitions during their term with us.”
“The Altitude Accelerator gives us a centralized location where we’re able to work alongside great mentors and advisors. Our RIC advisors are helping us develop innovative business models in a nascent industry where such models are not yet defined,” said Josh Maldonado, CEO of Discovr Labs and one of the incubator tenants, about the Incubator program.
The Altitude Accelerator Incubator creates a collaborative peer-to-peer network while offering professional services and technical support to the incubator tenants over a six-month term. In addition to the Altitude Accelerator’s office space and facilities, the Incubator gives the cohort easy access to all of the Altitude Accelerator’s networking events and their vast network of volunteer advisors as well as the Entrepreneurs in Residence, who are the Altitude Accelerator’s industry experts with an experience in entrepreneurship of their own.
Tenants can also access technical expertise and research facilities through the Xerox Research Centre of Canada’s fee-for-service model.
The next Incubator term with a new cohort will begin in August 2016. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply online at the Altitude Accelerator website when applications open next month.
