Recycling Idol promotes ‘Green’ tech

By: Matthew Kert

The Altitude Accelerator is proud to host the first Recycling Idol on December 6th. A spinoff of the popular Innovator Idol that is held every year, this event is all about clean technology and sustainability. The event is a combination of Dragon’s Den and American Idol, having companies present their technologies, with the best one being chosen by crowd vote. The four target areas that the companies must address in terms of recycling tools are within plastics and packaging, tires, electronics and hazardous waste. The winning company gets approximately $30,000 in prizes, helping them move forward and the ultimate title of Recycling Idol!

In Canada, Ontario is one of the leaders in fostering recycling technology innovation. The Canadian government promotes ‘green’ tech through government grants and various other programs. The event is sponsored by The Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) and Stewardship Ontario (SO). Each one of these organizations is leading the charge on sustainability and a ‘greener’ ideal. Our third sponsor, Turning Technologies Canada, is the worldwide industry leader in interactive polling, providing innovative and cutting-edge solutions. As well, Recycling Idol is hosted by RIC’s own entrepreneur in residence, James Sbrolla, who brings over 15 years of experience in the financial & environmental industries and is the Chairman of Environmental Business Consultants. In addition, we are proud to announce that one of the judges will be Gord Miller, the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario. It is sure to be an amazing event with lots of opportunities to network and hear about possible funding opportunities.

The Altitude Accelerator is currently accepting applicants who have an idea they want to present at Recycling Idol. Any companies that feature technology used in the recycling of products in the four categories listed above are encouraged to submit their application by November 15th.
