Supporting Innovation in Transportation Technology
May 19, 2015 11:00 A.M.
Ontario is helping the province’s transportation industry become a global leader in connected vehicle technology.
The province, through Ontario Centres of Excellence, is pledging $1 million to support innovative and commercially viable projects through the Connected Vehicle/Autonomous Vehicle Program.
Connected vehicles use wireless technology to link with other vehicles, transportation infrastructure and mobile devices, making it easier for drivers to access the information they need to drive safe.
Developing leading edge connected vehicle technology in Ontario has the potential to help increase road safety, reduce traffic congestion and minimize driver distraction.
Ensuring Ontario is a world leader in innovation in the auto industry is part of the government’s plan to build Ontario up. The four-part plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.
