Ontario is helping 531 leading-edge researchers in Toronto make new discoveries that will improve the lives of people around the world and continue to create jobs here at home.

Ontario’s investments in world-leading life sciences, clean technology, information technologies and other strategic areas of research at the University of Toronto, Ryerson University  ,the Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai Hospital , St. Michael’s Hospital , Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre , Toronto Rehab , and the University Health Network include support for:

• University of Toronto researcher Dr. Shana Kelley , who is developing a revolutionary device to detect prostate cancer at its earliest stages
• Mount Sinai researcher Dr. Daniel Durocher , who is using next-generation microscopes to unravel the inner workings of the cell. The goal is to rapidly uncover relationships between genes and proteins, particularly those involved in cancer.

Supporting Ontario researchers is part of Ontario’s strategy to create the next generation of jobs and make innovation a driving force of economic growth.

• More than 28,900 highly qualified people in Ontario have been trained as a result of Ontario Research Fund and Early Research Award funding.
