Former Altitude Accelerator Chair, W. John Switzer, passes away

It’s with our deepest sympathy and condolences to announce that former Altitude Accelerator Chair, W. John Switzer passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 after a year-long battle with glioblastoma. John was an integral part of Altitude Accelerator from 2011 to 2014.

John was also involved as a member of the Governing Council at the University of Toronto, a judge at the Decanter World Wine Awards, a teacher with the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, as well as a volunteer advisor for CPA Ontario, the United Church of Canada and the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Altitude Accelerator Executive Director, Pam Banks, said, “John Switzer provided valuable leadership to transform the Altitude Accelerator from the Western GTA Convergence Centre, a networking group to connect researchers to the business community, to an independent not-for-profit. John helped instil critical values in the board and the RIC team for an unwavering commitment to growing tech startups in Brampton, Caledon & Mississauga.”

“He was tireless in his hard work to build a strong organization and always ready to offer support to the startups that RIC services.”

John will always be remembered fondly by all those in the RIC community.
