The Altitude Accelerator recently attended the York Region’s annual Med Edge Summit. In addition to presentations from specialists in the medical technology industry, this summit provided a great networking and collaboration opportunity between various industry professionals, government reps and 200 healthcare startups.

The speakers and panelists that gave keynote addresses included representatives from not only local and national hospitals and universities but also international organizations such as Dr. Arien Meyers, President of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs and Professor at the University of Colorado in Denver, USA.What’s New in Canadian Healthcare Technology?, Altitude Accelerator

The overarching theme or “takeaway” from MedEdge was that we are moving towards an era of eHealth and Digital Medicine. This means healthcare industries are adopting and implementing a cloud-based model where each patient will have a standardized but secure Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to be shared by clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and any other healthcare providers that need access to the patient’s medical history.

The day at MedEdge ended with a lively presentation from Alex Levy, CEO of MyVoice, a startup company that have created a mobile app for deaf people or patients with a hearing or speaking disability.

Overall, it was a great event and the Altitude Accelerator is looking forward to next year’s MedEdge!
