Small Business Week 2011

By Misha Waheed

Every year the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) organises an event to bring together business people from around the community. The idea is to recognise entrepreneurs for their successful endeavours and to promote learning and networking among small companies.

SBW originated back in 1979, when BDC business centres in British Columbia decided to organise several management sessions for small businesses. After receiving great feedback from attendees, the BDC turned SBW into a national business event. SBW has now grown to become one of the most important annual events for entrepreneurs across Canada.

Power Up Your Business. Invest. INNOVATE. Grow.

The 2011 SBW is all about making innovation a core component of business. Successful entrepreneurs focus a great deal on understanding their customer’s needs and fulfilling them  through new products and services. As these needs evolve overtime, businesses must keep up with their customers by improving what they have to offer.

This year SBW will focus on how entrepreneurs should face their business challenges with determination, creativity, market awareness and investment in new technology. BDC’s President and Chieft Executive Offices, Jean-René Halde, will travel across Canada during SBW and address entrepreneurs about these important issues during a a luncheon. He will focus on the stories of three entrepreneurs who have been successful at creating competitive and profitable businesses.

“We can all learn from these entrepreneurs. Ambitious for their firms, they are decisive, use a keen sense of market demand and have adopted a business strategy defined by constant adaptation.”
– Jean-René Halde

SBW is an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs in the Peel region to interact with each other and learn the tools for creating successful and innovative businesses.
