F7a0a54c92471ac4480e727e4ccf93df L 300x235, Altitude AcceleratorShimifrez, a long standing client of the Altitude Accelerator, is built on the principles of making quality products and providing reliable Photo Chemical Etching services in Canada and internationally. Photochemical machining (PCM), also known as photo-etching, photo fabrication or photochemical milling, is a non-traditional micro fabrication/manufacturing method based on the combination of photo-resist imaging and chemical etching. Their diversified product range continues to grow by following trends, improving our standard products, and listening to the customer. Using their unique services as a competitive advantage, Shimifrez has established their place in the industry of metal etching. With over 30 years of experience, the company has covered all bases by serving over 20 different sectors and industries including Automotive, Aerospace, Medical instrumentation, Micro-electronics.

Hassan Nojoumi, President of Shimifrez discussed market opportunities for Shimifrez in Canada in an interview with the Altitude Accelerator. When asked where he sees the biggest untapped market for this company, he replied by saying, “No market is un-tapped in means of there are different methods that companies are finding solutions to their needs – Shimifrez…relies on helping companies in commercializing their products faster, cheaper with achieving very tight tolerances.”

In terms of theinternational marketsin the developing world that Shimifrez can potentially expand into, their capabilities and services would benefit the aerospace and micro electronics markets the most. Due to the intricacy of the products and characteristics of burr and stress free components, Shimifrez metal etching divisions can attract industries looking into micro- fabrication of metal parts which is an industry with a multibillion dollar market cap.

When asked to speak to some of the major challenges that Shimifrez has faced as a business, Hassan comments, “Every business has some hurdles when it wants to expand into new markets, for Shimifrez getting raw and speciality materials were a challenge but new strategies have been implemented to overcome the hurdles.” Overall, although the firm is very active in gaining market share in a variety of industries (like ornaments and decorative etching -see gallery below), there are two major industrial areas that they are excelling in today, namely, cleantech and advanced manufacturing. Some of their products that cater to these industries are (1) EMI/RFI shielding for board level shielding, (2) bipolar plates for hydrogen fuel cell industry, (3) evaporation and sputtering masks for solar industry and (4) IC lead frames for semi conductors in the  micro mechanical components industry.
