Register for the LAUNCH Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition – Sponsored by the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre
Calling all young entrepreneurs! The Mississauga City Youth Council in collaboration with Impact Tomorrow present the #LAUNCH Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition.
Have a business idea involving social enterprise, education, or technology? Mississauga youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to pitch their business ideas for the chance to compete in a live pitch competition on March 28th, 2015 at The University of Toronto – Mississauga Campus.
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FRIDAY MARCH 20th, 2015 at 11:59PM.
Entry Requirements
- Each team may consist of 1-3 people
- One submission form per team must be completed
- Within this form, teams must attach a 2-3 minute video entry and a one page executive summary of their business idea
- Videos must also be uploaded onto our Facebook event page
Video Requirements:
- Videos must be 2-3 minutes in length
- Videos must be uploaded to YouTube or Dropbox, and onto our Facebook event page by Friday, March 20th, 2015 and attached within the submission form
- Include the hashtags #MiCYC, #LAUNCH, and #ITExpo15 in the video’s description
- Video explains what problem you have aimed to solve, any key features of your product/service, any significant information that will give us an insight on your business, and which category your startup fits within (social enterprise, education, and/or technology)
- Video explains why you should have the opportunity to pitch your idea to our panel of business professionals at our Impact Tomorrow Expo on Saturday, March 28th, 2015
- Included in the video is the amount of money you are asking for and how it will be used
Written Requirements:
- Executive summary is no longer than one page using Times New Roman, size 12 point font
- This summary serves as a snapshot of your business idea formatted in a way that briefly overviews solely the key aspects
- Here is a brief outline of topics you may wish to include in your executive summary:
- Product/Service Description (What is it? How is it used? Why is it needed? Price?)
- Marketing Plan (How will you get consumer to buy it? What are the key selling points?)
- Competition (Who already exists in this market? How does your approach differ from your competitors?)
- Financials (How will you budget this idea? How much money is needed and how will it be allocated?)
Selection Process
Once all entries are submitted and all videos are uploaded onto the Facebook event page, they will be assessed and advancement will occur as follows:
- Based on the entries we receive, we will select the top 3 teams who will advance
- Additionally, the two videos with the most Facebook “likes” on our event page by 11:59pm on Friday, March 20th, 2015 will advance (upload early to boost your chances!)
Live Pitch Competition Information
The live #LAUNCH Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition will take place on Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at The University of Toronto – Mississauga Campus. The format of the live pitch competition will be as follows:
- Teams will get 5 minutes to pitch their idea along with a 5 minute questioning period in front of our panel of business professionals and audience
- Teams may use slideshows, handouts, and other materials. However, judges will only retain such materials until the end of the 10-minute pitch
- Judges will not have read/viewed a team’s original entry prior to the competition
- Entrepreneurs are recommended to discuss and elaborate on ideas from their business plan throughout their presentation
