Exciting news for the arts community in Brampton! Altitude Accelerator is thrilled to announce a new initiative to support local artists in building and expanding their businesses through their latest program: “Business Basics for Artists,” made available through the City of Brampton’s Advance Brampton Fund This initiative will provide essential business training, and tools, for Brampton’s Arts and culture community. In collaboration with the Brampton Arts Organization, the program is designed to align with the community’s needs providing the essential strategies to build brand visibility, sales opportunities, finance foundations and copyright insights to protect artists’ works.

As in many other fields, artists often face challenges when it comes to navigating the business side of their careers. Whether it’s marketing, managing finances, or building a brand, artists may not have the resources or guidance to fully capitalize on their talent.

That’s why Altitude created the Business Basics Program. This initiative will offer a series of virtual workshops with the goal to bridge the gap between artistic talent and the business essentials to grow a successful arts venture.

What the Program Offers:

The program will cover business essentials, including budgeting, business models, and copyright protection, with a focus on safeguarding artists’ work. A Marketing 101 session will be covering topics like understanding your target market, developing your marketing plan and web and social media essentials to build visibility. Artists will also learn about tools and techniques to build their prospect list and effectively sell their work. They will also receive guidance on how to craft and present a business pitch and define a unique value proposition.

Participants will also have access to online training through RevUp, a self-paced program to develop an effective business plan, along with various resources for market research and cloud and CRM credits.

“Altitude Accelerator works with many creative students launching side hustles, and we quickly realized that while they have incredible artistic talents, they often lack fundamental business knowledge. After speaking with members of the Brampton arts community, we saw a similar need for support. As part of the Brampton Innovation District, we believe it’s important to support our neighbors—and at its core, innovation is all about finding creative approaches to solving problems. By equipping artists with the business tools they need, we’re helping them turn their passion into sustainable success.”

-Pam Banks, Executive Director, Altitude Accelerator

“Artists aren’t just creators—they’re small businesses driving economic growth. Investing in professional development and business essentials for artists isn’t just support; it’s a strategic move to strengthen our local economy and creative industries in Brampton. Ontario’s culture sector is a powerhouse, contributing over $26 billion to the province’s GDP in 2022 alone.  A thriving arts sector in Brampton means a more prosperous city for everyone.”

-Michael Vickers, Executive Director, Brampton Arts Organization

“The City of Brampton is proud to support ‘Business Basics for Brampton’s Arts Community’ as one of 159 non-profit and charitable organizations receiving funding through the 2025 Advance Brampton Fund. This year, we are investing a record $1.75 million to empower a diverse range of community initiatives, an investment in Brampton’s future.  By supporting initiatives that help local artists build sustainable careers, we are contributing to a stronger creative sector and a more vibrant local economy.”

-Kelly Stahl, Director, Cultural Services, City of Brampton

The Business Basics for Artists Program will run between April to June, 2025. Please to go Altitude Accelerator for updates.

Thanks to the City of Brampton for their partnership through the Advance Brampton fund to support for the artist community. Local artists now will have the opportunity to access business training. Whether you are an illustrator, musician, painter–an entrepreneur working in the gig economy or building your craft part-time, this initiative is designed to help you accelerate your craft to the next level.
