New Canadian International Innovation Program to launch this fall

Is your business developing an innovative product or service and open to exploring international opportunities? Then you will be interested in learning about the upcoming Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP), which is expected to launch later this fall.

Fund overview

  • Fosters and supports collaborative industrial R&D projects with high potential for commercialization between Canada and partner countries.

  • Access support and funding (amount per applicant to be announced)
  • Access intelligence on technology and markets
  • Identify credible partners
  • Access new markets through technology partnering
  • Leverage investment to de-risk R&D projects
  • Reduce market entry risk and the costs associated with technology adaptation, technology co-development and technology validation

Eligibility criteria

  • SMEs
  • Engaged in developing technology for a new product, process, or service for civilian use
  • Desire and capability to source knowledge abroad by “tapping” global talents to address technical gaps
  • Technology or product offers advantages in a foreign marketplace
  • Financial backing to reach new markets or could attract investment

Types of eligible R&D projects

  • Technology Adaptation. Market Expansion
  • Technology Validation. Market Validation
  • Technology Co-Development. Product Development

Partner countries

  • Brazil
  • China
  • India
  • Israel
  • South Korea (coming soon: Canada and the country are currently bringing an agreement into force)

Timing and delivery

  • Preliminary expressions of interest are currently accepted
  • Expected launch in the fall of 2015
  • Administered by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, in collaboration with NRC-IRAP for Brazil, China, and India (initially)
