Employment in the information and technology field is expected to increase by 22% by 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. There is no doubt we are living in the technological age that is expanding at a rapid rate. Mechanics, software and computing continue to change the systems of our world. Excelling in technology takes tremendous effort. The breadth of the industry makes it difficult to locate appropriate expertise for your niche. Mentorship is a strategic method to accelerate your development—whether you want to grow your business, connect with customers, gain affiliations or develop strategies.

In the beginning stages of operating a business, it seems that things would flow much easier if only you had a mentor to guide you. There are many mistakes that can be avoided by listening and learning from past experiences of those that have prospered in the same field. Reading books does not equate to real interaction with a professional. Before the success of Microsoft, Dr. Ed Roberts coached Bill Gates. Roberts created one of the first microcomputers. He shared his expertise with Gates and guided him to pursue his own company. “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others,” says Gates. Without this mental stimulation, we wonder if this tech icon would have made that crucial step.

Start-up companies especially need connections to improve their business. There is a need for mentorship in technology. Silicon Peel is a grassroots technology community that is addressing this concern. The Silicon Peel mentoring program enables people to obtain equitable, applicable, big-picture guidance and network with the right people. Frequent communication with your mentor or mentee can result in a lasting relationship that helps you reach your desired audience and boost business profits.

It is a volunteer based program that encourages the involvement of people in technology. Applications are currently open for both mentors and mentees during this ongoing procedure. Mentors shall commit to improving their mentee’s self-marketing, technical skills, assist in setting goals, evaluating progress and introduce them to reasonable networks. In return, mentors will feel fulfillment by helping and being involved with the community in a way that produces real fiscal results. Both sides will learn from the other and gain a fresh perspective. According to the program coordinators, many are embracing the opportunity at Silicon Peel. To optimize the efficiency of your company, take advantage of mentorship.
